Why IT Planning Starts at Design
IT infrastructure decisions made during design — conduit routing, MDF/IDF room sizing, power and cooling requirements — are far less expensive to change on paper than after walls are closed. IDENETY recommends engaging your IT design team during schematic design at the latest.
Pre-Construction IT Checklist
Telecommunications Rooms
- MDF/IDF room locations identified and sized per TIA-942 guidelines
- Dedicated 20A circuits for each telecom room confirmed with electrical
- Cooling capacity confirmed (minimum 1 ton per 100 sq ft of active equipment)
- Raised floor or cable management pathway designed
Structured Cabling
- Horizontal cabling pathway (conduit or J-hooks) coordinated with MEP
- Cable tray routing confirmed above ceiling
- Outlet locations confirmed against furniture/workstation layout
- Backbone pathway between MDF and IDFs confirmed
Wireless Infrastructure
- AP locations identified in architectural drawings
- Conduit sleeves for AP drops included in rough-in scope
- ERRCS/DAS requirements assessed and included if applicable
Security & Access Control
- Camera locations coordinated with security consultant
- Access control door hardware locations confirmed
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) budget confirmed for security devices
