What Is ERRCS?
An Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRCS) — also called a Public Safety DAS — ensures that first responders can communicate reliably inside your building using their radio equipment. Most jurisdictions now require ERRCS in new construction and major renovations above a certain square footage.
Who Needs It?
- New commercial construction over 50,000 sq ft (thresholds vary by jurisdiction)
- Buildings with underground parking, concrete-heavy construction, or significant RF shielding
- Facilities seeking Certificate of Occupancy in most major Texas cities and nationwide
- Existing buildings undergoing major renovation or change of use
The Compliance Process
- RF Survey: IDENETY conducts a signal strength survey to identify dead zones and coverage gaps.
- System Design: We engineer a DAS solution sized to your facility and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements.
- Installation: Antenna placement, head-end equipment, and cabling installed per design.
- Testing & Certification: Signal testing performed with local fire marshal or AHJ representative present.
- Documentation: Full as-built drawings and test reports provided for your records and permit closeout.
Common Pitfalls
Many projects fail inspection because ERRCS was treated as an afterthought. Integrating it early in the construction schedule — alongside electrical and low-voltage rough-in — saves significant rework cost. IDENETY works directly with your GC to coordinate timing.
